The Australian Natural Heritage Charter is a distillation of 'best practice' conservation principles for Australia, based on the consensus of a broad range of experts. It aims to assist everyone with an interest in natural places to establish their natural heritage values and manage them. It can be applied to a wide range of places whether terrestrial, marine or freshwater.
The charter acknowledges that in making decisions that will affect the future of a place, it is important to consider all of its heritage values - both natural and cultural. Issues relating to the conservation of cultural values may affect the selection of appropriate conservation processes, actions and strategies for the place's natural values. It is closely related to the Burra Charter.
